TET, FESTIVALS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

25 - 12 - 2022

Tet (Lunar New Year) is one of the most important and traditional holidays in Vietnamese culture. Tet is celebrated on the first day of the new year according to the lunar calendar and holds special significance for people in Vietnam.

Tet and festival events can have an impact on the environment in several aspects. Here are some environmental factors that may be affected during Tet:

Waste: During the Tet holiday, the amount of generated waste can significantly increase due to increased consumption, shopping, and celebrations. Common sources of waste include packaging from goods, leftover food, bottles, gift boxes, and lanterns. Efficient waste management is crucial to avoid environmental pollution.

Water usage: During Tet, water usage also increases due to the need for cleaning and cooking. This can put pressure on water sources and lead to water shortages in some areas. To protect the water environment, we should use water in a safe and reasonable manner.

Traditional practices: Some traditional activities during Tet can have an impact on the environment. For example, the use of fireworks and bangers can cause air pollution and noise. For the sake of the environment and health, we should consider alternative forms of entertainment that do not have negative impacts on the environment.

Transportation: During the Tet holiday, traffic congestion often occurs due to the movement of many people to and from various locations. This can contribute to increased emissions from vehicles and contribute to air pollution. Using public transportation or carpooling can be a solution to minimize this negative impact.

Food waste: Tet often involves buying and cooking a lot of food. According to tradition, the Tet feast is usually more abundant and diverse, which often leads to a significant amount of leftover food and waste.

To minimize the negative impact of Tet on the environment, there are several measures that individuals can take:

Wash and reuse packaging: Instead of discarding packaging after use, we can clean and reuse them to reduce waste.

Water conservation: Use water in a safe and reasonable manner by turning off faucets when not in use, and using water-saving features on devices such as showers or toilets.

Use public transportation: If possible, use public transportation or carpool to reduce air pollution from personal vehicles.

Explore environmentally-friendly forms of entertainment: Instead of using fireworks and bangers, consider alternative forms of entertainment such as lighting candles or participating in outdoor activities that do not cause environmental pollution.

Plan wisely to avoid food waste. Use leftover food for other dishes or share it with those in need.

Tet is a time for family reunions and celebrations, but we also need to care for and protect the environment during this festive season. We can enjoy a peaceful and sustainable Tet by implementing these small environmental protection measures mentioned above. December is the month of festivals and celebrations, a time for rest and gathering with family. However, let's not forget about environmental protection and the responsible use of resources.

Wishing the Celadon Sports Club and its members a joyful time and a delightful Tet season.
