OLD BATTERY RECYCLING - PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND CREATING SUSTAINABLE OPPORTUNITIES

30 - 05 - 2023

In the modern world, each day we use millions of batteries to power electronic devices, especially mobile phones. But have you ever wondered about the large amount of discarded batteries we generate daily and their negative impact on the environment?

Based on Gamuda Land's (HCMC) commitment to environmental protection according to ISO 14001:2015 standards, let's explore the old battery recycling program at the Celadon Sports and Resort Club and the importance of participating in this initiative.

The old battery recycling program is not just a simple environmental protection activity but also a collaborative effort to build a sustainable community. Its goal is to prevent resource wastage and minimize negative environmental impacts.

Why choose Old Batteries for this project?

The negative environmental impact of old batteries:

Batteries contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium. When batteries are not properly handled and disposed of, these toxic substances can leach into the surrounding environment, causing harm to soil, water, and air. This poses a potential risk to human health and ecosystems. Disposing of old batteries in regular waste not only creates environmental pollution but also increases the risk of toxic substances spreading into the natural environment.

Studies have shown that the amount of mercury and other hazardous materials in a single old battery can pollute 500 liters of water or 1m3 of soil for up to 50 years. One of the significant benefits of old battery recycling is the ability to recycle and reuse the components of the battery.

Components such as metals, plastics, and electrolytes can be recycled and used to manufacture new products. This helps minimize the use of natural resources and energy required to produce new components. Additionally, recycling old batteries also significantly saves the necessary raw materials in the production process.

By establishing an ESG corner – (ESG) Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance with a focus on collecting old clothes and used batteries, Celadon Sports and Resort Club once again emphasizes the importance and sustainable commitments of its staff members to the environment. We also hope to spread these positive values to our customers and join hands in building a green, clean, and efficient community.
