The negative environmental impact of old batteries:

Batteries contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium. When batteries are not properly handled and disposed of, these toxic substances can leach into the surrounding environment, causing harm to soil, water, and air. This poses a potential risk to human health and ecosystems. Disposing of old batteries in regular waste not only creates environmental pollution but also increases the risk of toxic substances spreading into the natural environment.

Studies have shown that the amount of mercury and other hazardous materials in a single old battery can pollute 500 liters of water or 1m³ of soil for up to 50 years. One of the significant benefits of old battery recycling is the ability to recycle and reuse the components of the battery.

Components such as metals, plastics, and electrolytes can be recycled and used to manufacture new products. This helps minimize the use of natural resources and energy required to produce new components. Additionally, recycling old batteries also significantly saves the necessary raw materials in the production process.
